Havin’ a Party

Last week saw us back in Portsmouth, for a party, and the long awaited return of my band. We played to a packed house: comments ranging from Oh What a Crying Shame, it’s a Wicked World , and Wonderful Tonight. However, top of the bill was Cathy’s Cornish Buffet, with pasties and cream teas direct from Looe’s Pasty Shop – a really tough act to follow.

We have requests for the band to travel west to Cornwall, and Seaton and Mount Brioni. Will it happen or is it a dream? Pat and Dave are checking diaries. It’s all very exciting; could be another year to remember….

Christmas Cheer

The festivities began early with our staff Christmas bash at the Copley Arms in Hessingford. Plenty of good cheer, and food, wine, singing and dancing, starring the Copley’s very own Rachel Bradburn – an excellent evening.

This year we had a very merry Christmas with many family visitors from deepest Portsmouth enjoying the best Seaton and Looe has to offer; as did the many guests on holiday at Mount Brioni.

…and, of course, panto with Cinderella at the Theatre Royal Plymouth starring Julian Clarie and Keith Harris. An excellent production, with a happy ending, enjoyed by a packed house.

At dinner on the following day, after of much shopping, not by me, we met a show biz legend and  hero of mine since school days. What a great way to end the year.

Best wishes for a happy and peaceful 2012.

Roger & Cathy’s Holiday

After 14 years, it was time for our holiday in the sun…..and we had plenty of sun, sea and sandy beach. It could have Seaton, except we were swimming in that warm November sea!

Met lots nice people, and enjoyed a fine blend of culture, sight seeing, fun and rest.  We learnt a bit of fox-trot and rumba on board, and I did some lunch-time limbo in a beach bar, driven on by Bob Marley and rum punch.

We tried to resist the abundance of food and wine, with, I’m afraid, limited success.

…. and on the flight home we shared pink champagne with a celebrity!

We are now back in Cornwall, with sunshine and blue sky, and the punch has been replaced by the Tribute….. am I still on holiday?

The good life!

Some weeks are set aside for enjoyment, and this was such a week! One Man, Two Guvnors, with James Corden, played to a packed house at Theatre Royal, Plymouth – a must see, end of the pier romp, and, at St Austell, the west country folk duo Show of Hands, currently touring everywhere.

Sunday spent visiting good friends in Polruan: a walk down the hill to the quay, catching the passenger ferry across the river to a busy Fowey.  A beer in the Lugger, followed by lunch in Sams.  The return trip up the hill was tough, but we made it. The end to another tough week!

Rame Head

A Sunday walking from Cawsands to Rame Head and back; 2 hours of healthy pleasure – and great views of the Eddystone Light House, and beers at the Cross Keys.

Morval Vintage Steam Rally

Busy weekend! Saturday night visit to the Theatre Royal’s Drum Theatre in Plymouth. Plymouth’s Young Company production of Heartbreak Beautiful, modern play about life, love and sport……what else is there?  Very fast and very entertaining; needed to stop at the Copley on the way home, to consider and recover!

Sunday, and it’s the Morval Vintage Steam Rally. Tractors, Engines and burgers! Our estate worker Ron will be there with his Russian Troop Carrier – and you don’t see many of those in Cornwall!

Blue Plate and other dining

Hello,

October was very busy, but we found some time for socialising. Nick Barclay and his team held an open-house to celebrate 12 months at the Blue Plate. Lots of good wine, fine food and excellent company: and Cathy won 6 bottles of red in the raffle.

More dining at the Liskeard Round Table’s Trafalgar Night, celebrating Nelson, and the Cornish connection to his greatest victory. No prizes won here, probably due to forgetting to purchase raffle tickets. In addition, a night in Torquay, rockin’ with Marti Wilde – will this pleasure never end!

The talk at the Blue Plate included the dolphins in the bay. It seems that everyone saw them except us. As someone said, we should get out more. So that’s now our plan – personally, I can’t wait.

Take care,

Roger, & Cathy
